The Covid Hustle

As we all are now well informed about the covid-19 pandemic and its repercussions, it would be wrong if someone didn't agree to this point about how immensely covid-19 has affected our physical as well as mental health. It was/is an unprecedented time all across the world. Worldwide, extensive social distancing policies are put into place restricting people's daily activities and worldwide pleas from governments asking people to stay safe and stay at home, which is the best way to keep oneself and our loved ones safe in the time of covid-19. This of course means that most people will spend most of their time (if not all) at home. The social distancing measures mean that people have far fewer opportunities to be physically active, especially if activities such as walking or cycling as transportation or taking part in a leisurely activity are being restricted.

Although these social distancing measures are important and are needed in a time such as now, our bodies and minds still need physical activity and its many benefits.

Physical activities may include several kinds of activities, one could include things such as: Cycling, walking, playing(not a team game, maybe of 2-3 participants), jogging, gardening, house cleaning, carrying heavy shopping etc.

During the covid-19 pandemic it is even more important for all people to be physically active even if it's only a short break from sitting at your desk and doing some walking or stretching. Doing something as simple as this will:

•Ease muscle strain

•relieve mental tension

•improve blood circulation

•improve muscle activity

We should try to set some kind of routine in this hectic life where nothing is predictable. And in this pandemic, it actually became more crucial when many of us are very restricted in our movements; people of all ages should try to be as active as possible (physically as well as mentally).

Covid-19 led many youngsters to stay away from their families for several months; many of them were not accustomed to this sudden change which they faced. This pandemic has had a severe impact on mental health of people all around the globe. Fear, worry and stress are normal responses that may be perceived or real threats, and at times when we are faced with uncertainty or the unknown. So it is normal and understandable that people experience fear in the context of the covid-19 pandemic.

When an individual feels trapped in a psychological quicksand, it can be hard to invest inone’s self, and as a consequence performance and efficiency in professional as well as personal life suffer.

There are several ways one can keep one's mental and physical and psychological health balanced:

•set aside at least 10 minutes everyday to focus on your own mental health

• Write a journal regularly

•meditate

•read a book to relax and most importantly, remember that you are not alone.

*Call or video chat with relatives especially those who live alone,

*set up a virtual game night with your friends.

Learn about ways you can help your community.Remember, we are all in this together, which means none of us is truly alone.
