Devanshi Dabas: President, Council 2016-2017
The Redstockings Literary Society of the Department of English, Bharati College, is a group that aims towards providing its members opportunities for stimulating discussion and debate. For the past one year, the society has worked towards improvement of self and its members. We began this beautiful journey in the month of September.
I had been part of various events previously but becoming the Society President and taking up a huge like this was a new path to discover. Throughout the session, the faculty coordinator, Dr. Shivani Jha and my friend, Yogita have been my support system and from the bottom of my heart, I thank them for always being there for me.
In the month of October, along with my friends I started working at Nirmal Chhaya and Old age home.It was then that I became friends with my lovely juniors. Also when we organized various competitions we became friends with students of different departments. Over a period of time, this bond of love and affection has only grown stronger.
Not a single day has passed when I did not see smiling faces of my juniors, wave to them or maybe sometimes indulge in some chit chat in the corridors. And I must say I have been very lucky to have such friendly juniors and cooperative classmates. Cracking jokes with Priyanka, Vibha, Irshita, Samridhi and Kanchan who helped me in making the badges, are some of the beautiful moments I will always treasure.
Another beautiful gift that came with the post of the President was discovering new places in Delhi, from small shops in Karol Bagh and Shadipur to the big ones in Rohini. Every other day has been an opportunity to discover something new.
This journey would be incomplete without thanking my mentors who have always been there for me. Our Principal, Dr. Mukti Sanyal was a remarkable support throughout. I am deeply grateful to Dr.Nandini Sen and Dr. Shivani Jha for their wonderful ideas and Dr. Sonali Jain for helping me in my tough times.
I am immensely grateful and would like to thank all the teachers for their support. The Society would not have functioned so well had it not been for the editors, members, volunteers and yes, the Editor-in-Chief, Tanishka, who acted as the fourth wheel of the Society.
In these three years of graduation I have met new people, made new friends, and shared bonds of love, joy and warmth. Today I can proudly claim to have lived my college life to the fullest. Though my journey has had its share of ups and downs but I guess, that’s what makes it a beautiful one. And when I leave this college, I will have wonderful stories to tell.
Thank you.
Devanshi Dabas
