From the President's Desk

In July of 2021, Redstockings introduced its new literary chapter, Segue: Literary Carnival 2021. It was a celebration of the transitions and an acceptance of the new. The literary carnival was all about allowing ourselves to segue into the new season with a new set of aspirations, challenges and transitions.

The year has changed. It is 2022 and we introduce the first 2022 edition of Redstockings Chronicle featuring the winning entries from Segue. In addition to that, we present to you the new team of Redstockings Council and a comprehensive report of Segue. This edition is titled Before Spring Arrives since it will soon be the time for seasons to change, again. We conclude Segue and its theme of changes and acceptance of the new while welcoming the spring season, and as we do so, we are thinking of PB Shelley's iconic “If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?” from Ode to the West Wind to convey our hope and optimism during these times.

While curating this Special Edition, the dominant thought which we had was what transitioning from one phase to the other means in the grand scheme of things. How changes are inevitable. In the winning poem of ‘Blacked Out: Black Out Poetry Writing Competition’, the poet Harshita leaves us with a question hinting at our significance in this world. ‘Last Photograph’, the winning thriller story written by Anmeet Chawla with its galvanic words steals the show. Ameesha Arora’s winning poem centered around love never being enough reminds us yet again of permanence and transitions. The three winning captions written by Akansha Bhardwaj for the Triptych, weave a stunning story that would remain meaningful even when put asunder.

We are excited for you to read this issue full of fantastic pieces questioning transitions in some way or the other. May this Special Edition bring you warmth this season. Thank you for being here.
