I sat down to write this piece on a hot summer day, right as I got home after an hour long commute from college. To get a better gist of what I was writing about, I reread all the pieces we had picked out for our ‘Winter Sun’ edition (I had last read them months ago, when they first came in). “What irony!”, I thought as I scoured the pages. Here I was, sweaty and uncomfortable in this scorching heat, reading about the pleasures and joys of a cool winter day. It was in this moment that it hit me, I adore winters.
I always saw myself as a summer person, but the more that I think about it, the more I yearn for the those chilly days when I would lie beneath the waning rays of the sun as my grandmother sat on a cot shelling peanuts. I remember the scent of heavy fog in the air, peeled oranges on the balcony, reading books in the embrace of cozy blankets and the way Christmas carols on cold nights give me such comfort.
What makes this, the ‘Winter Sun’ edition, so special is that it covers the loveliest parts of the winter season that people hold dearest in the form of heartfelt, comforting poetry. Each of these poems brought such genuine smiles to our faces, I hope they do the same for you.
